Day 39 - Relax @ Siem Reap

Today woke up and slacked for a long time in the room as I had a stomach upset and wasn't feeling very well. Must be the street food I had last night.

Finally decided to go out to have lunch after going to the laundry shop opposite my hotel. Lunch was at 'Viva Mexican restaurant'. Ordered a beef taco and chips for a start. Followed up with a fish taco and sex on the beach cocktail. Cost: USD$6

Went back to the room again as I'm still not feeling very well and wish to hide from the sun. Later shall ride out to Angkor Wat to recce and buy my ticket for tomorrow.

4pm went out to do a little shopping and somehow I walked in to another eatery and ordered yet more food. Fish&chips and a cheese burger I took away (USD$6)

5pm I set off to Angkor Wat to recce the parking area and to buy my ticket for tomorrow. The ticket office is situated about 3km from the main entrance to Angkor Wat.

Before I purchased the ticket, the staff asked me 3 times if I am Cambodian citing that I looked and dressed like a local. Unfortunately, she say I needed to produce a Cambodian pasport in order to get in for free. Damn, if only I had one. End up, I had to pay USD$20 for a 1 day pass as per the rest if the tourist.

Next I had to settle parking. Found a suitable parking area about 50m from the main entrance. The parking fee was 2000 riel (USD$0.50) for guarded parking. Not bad at all.

A trick that I learnt from guidebooks that I have read previously is that if I purchased tomorrow's ticket after 5pm today, I can enter today as well. And so that's what I did. I entered Angkor Wat for a short walk today but I was a little too late, so I just missed the sunset. It's kind of early today-_- Took some simple photos, collected my laundry (which was really well done for USD$1) and went back to my room to rest and watch wrestling on tv.

Petrol in Siem Reap is at USD$1.14 per litre which is roughly the same as Thailand.

9pm went out to eat again! Tried prawn amok and lime juice at 'golden villa temple restaurant' (USD$5). I'm gonna get up really early tomorrow to walk off all the food I had today. I got to stop eating, this is really crazy!!
